The Hermanus Botanical Society came into being more than 40 years ago when the Horticultural Society formally changed its name at a meeting at the old Astoria Hotel. Its assets at that point were all of fifty-nine pounds three shillings and eightpence. Fernkloof became a nature reserve in the same era and so was born a long and happy association. Special projects were the laying of the Cliff Path and the building of the Botanical Centre, early flower shows and tree plantings. In l983 the Hermanus Herbarium was established which has since been accorded international status and given the acronym HER. THE HERMANUS BOTANICAL SOCIETY OFFERS ITS MEMBERS:

Email Lee at the following email addressleeburman@telkomsa.net HIRING OUT OF BOTANICAL SOCIETY FACILITIESFernkloof Hall: All day: R300Evening: R250 Few Hours: R200 Weddings: R750 + R750 refundable deposit Bulk bookings (ie for 3 or 4 days): R1 000 Kitchen: R100 Use of extras (ie crockery, cutlery etc.) R150 15 trestle tables and 100 chairs are included in the hire charge. Gas braai R150 GALPIN HUT (on top of Galpinkop 596m): A two-hour hike takes you to this mountain hut which sleeps four.Take all bedding and cooking utensils with you. It is available to Hermanus Botanical Society members for R80 per night (for the hut) and to members of the public at R120 per night (for the hut). No fires are allowed and all rubbish must be brought down. Maps show the hiking trails and a display of flower specimens, renewed weekly, show what is blooming and where. Comments in the visitors' book and donations are welcome. |
