Habitat

Well drained soils at a wide range of altitudes.

October - January, especially after fire.

Description

Plants 15-30cm high. Corm globose with coarsely fibrous tunics. Leaves cylindrical without prominent veins, up to 150mm long, sometimes withering at flowering time. Sturdy stem with hard brown bracts carries 7-14 deep blue to purple, rarely white, flowers, in a spirally arranged spike. From Greek: thereios = summer, anthos = flower.
