Description

Total length about 11cm, weight about 40g. Also known as the 'running mole'. Small and sleek with soft silky fur, dark brown with a metalic sheen. Two long digging claws on forefeet. Living in sandy soil in fynbos and cultivated areas. Forages in tunnels just below the surface for earthworms and insects. Rests in deeper tunnels, usually under bushes.
