The male is glossy blue-black with rich chestnut primaries edged black, while the female is similar, except for the head, upper breast and upper mantle which is dark grey, streaked with blue-black. The build is slender, with relatively long tail and short legs. In Fernkloof on cliffs and rocky hillsides. Common resident.
