Endemic to the western and southern Cape this secretive warbler is more often heard than seen. It is usually found on moist south-facing slopes where it scuttles mouse-like in the scrubby vegetation. It is grey-brown above and russet below with broad, wedge-shaped tail. It is best identified by its orange-yellow eye. Common resident
