Plants to 1.2m high. Leaves sword-shaped, often with a waxy bloom, 12-20mm wide. Flowers in elongate, usually branched spike, scarlet; perianth tube 36-44mm long, tubular above. Watsonia = after Dr. William Watson, a London physician and naturalist, d. 1787. angusta = narrow
