Description

Very tall, long-legged and long-necked white bird (Lesser Flamingo looks pinker) with bent bill - pink with black tip. In flight it has a very conspicuous flame red wing with black flight feathers. Highly nomadic, found at seasonally large bodies of shallow water, both inland and coastal; saline and brackish waters preferred. Red data book status in S Africa: Near-threatened. Common summer resident
