Identified by double black breast-bands, one on either side of white band encircling neck. Runs with quick jerky movements, stops to peck or to probe in mud with rapid jabs. Seen in muddy shallow water at Kleinrivier Lagoon Bird Hide and almost any inland water. Common resident.
