Description

Other than the Black-shouldered Kite, this is the only other raptor that regularly hovers. It also perches on dead trees or fence posts and is found in hilly country and grassland. It is deep rufous above and below, slightly spotted black. The head and tail are blue-grey the female being slightly duller than the male. The tail has a broad black tail-band and the tip of the tail is white. Common resident.
