Description

Small mottled brownish-grey sandpiper with white under-parts, longish, de-curved bill and hunched posture. In flight a white wing-bar and broad white rump is conspicuous. Although this is a non-breeding summer visitor, some birds acquire breeding plumage in late summer, when they turn dark brown, mottled with chestnut and buff with deep reddish chestnut underparts. Common summer visitor.
