Description

Plants 5-8cm high. Stem underground. The corm tunics are netted. Leaves linear-lanceolate, pleated and hairy. Flowers blue to mauve with white to cream markings. Fragrant. Bracts, usually entirely green, inner bracts divided to the base. Babiana from: Dutch "baviaantjie" or its Cape corruption "babiaantjie" for small baboon: = baboons are partial to its corms.
