Description

Plants 12-35cm high. Corm ovoid with woody, overlapping tunics. Leaves sword-shaped to linear, margins usually with wings held at right angles to blades, 2-10mm wide, minutely hairy on veins and margin edges. Flowers in 2-6 flowered spike, white to cream, sometimes red or purple. Perianth tube about 2mm long. Tepals about 10-15mm long. Bracts dry, rusty above. From Greek: geisson, tile; rhiza, root = regular overlapping of the corm tunics.
