Description

Plants 20-50cm high, flowering stem bearing only sheathing leaves. Corm globose with coarsely fibrous tunics. Leaf produced after flowering, solitary, linear to sword-shaped with thickened margins, usually sparsely hairy, 3-6mm wide. Flowers pink, rarely brownish or gray, with yellow markings on lower tepals, mostly 8-12 flowered erect spike From Latin: gladiolus, small sword: = shape of leaves.
