DescriptionAn introduced species. Often straggly, bristly annual, up to 30cm. Leaves are lobed or deeply cut. The showy flowers are cream to yellow, 25-40mm across. The calyx has purple veins and becomes inflated as the fruit ripens. Hibiscus - Latin name for "marsh-mallow", possibly from ibis, stork, which fed on some species of mallow. |
