Description

Males overall lenght 1,5m and up to 43kg. Females smaller, 1,2m and 17kg. Colour varies from greyish-brown to dark brown. Males can appear almost black with a dark mane on neck and shoulders. Long forelegs and long, dextrous hands and feet. Males' long muzzles and canine teeth give them a formidable appearance. Adaptable to any habitat where food, water and resting places are available. Staple diet is grass, bulbs, fruit, insects and scorpions, but they are completely omnivorous and opportunistic, raiding crops and houses in built areas. Social, living in troops which vary in size due to changes in male dominance and human interference. Extremely vocal and boisterous.
