Habitat

Damp sandstone and clay slopes.

Altitude

Flowering time

July to September, in greatest abundance after fires.

Description

Plants 10-20cm high. Corm tunics black, leathery or cartilaginous. Leaves three, lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, the margins minutely hairy, the uppermost set about halfway up the stem. Flowers sessile in short spikes, white or maroon, with or without pink spots. Onixotis from Greek: onyx = claws; otion = small cat; refers to clawed base of petals. punctata = dotted with spots
