Flowering time

July to December depending locality

Both the common name and the specific name are very apt - "water heath" alludes to its preferred habitat near or in water; and "caffra" alluding to the breadth of its distribution (caffer=South African). It forms a large sturdy shrub two to four metres high with strong twisted branches. The white or yellowish tubular corollas are covered with hairs and have small spreading lobes.
