A sturdy, erect-stemmed, shrub growing to 1,2 m from a fire-resistant root- stock. Leaves have thickened margins and flowerheads have closely packed pink to brown, fringed involucral bracts.The somewhat small heads of the narrow-leaved Hermanus form are often light yellow with dark beards.
