Description

In flight the female is identified by white rump and wing-patches. The male has a black tail, wings and head, with large white patches on either side of the neck. The breast is rich chestnut. The female is streaked black and brown above and dull cinnamon below. The wings are flicked on landing and when alarmed. Common resident.
