Description

Plants 10-35cm high. Corm with a cap of short, fine bristles. A variable plant with 4-12 leaves, Y-shaped in cross-section in the upper half. The solitary yellow, pink or white flowers on hollow stalks are very variable in size, and are with or without an iridescent dark centre. Bract single, long, green and tightly sheathing the pedicel. From Greek: spilos, a spot, stain; xenos, host: = spotted base of floral parts in some species.
